Get to know the debt relief company you are going to be working with. See what they're like, make sure their plan and playing style is something you can work with. Compatibility and similar goals are essential to your debt success, to working together for your benefit and toward a common, well established goal.

But what happens when you are not on the same page with your debt relief programs? Things fall to pieces, feelings get hurt, and money is always invariably lost somewhere along the way. The Debt Teacher cannot always be there to mediate these flare ups of financial priorities, but the Teacher can say the following:

• Listen to what your debt relief program is trying to tell you. If what they say will save you money over the long haul, take their suggestions. But if their ideas will make them greater profit, then you need to follow through with suspicion.
• Don't do anything crazy like apply with other debt relief programs without listening to an explanation by your current company. Transferring programs is a great way to wind up paying more money and possibly damaging your credit score.

Yet if you discuss your options and the direction of your debt relief before you begin working with those debt relief programs, all these petty differences will become obsolete. Teamwork people!
